Job Description

Our client, a premier construction management and engineering firm with offices throughout California, has an immediate need to hire a Project Manager/P.E. to join a dynamic Design & Engineering team in San Diego. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering utility undergrounding projects, oversee design team, and distribute assignments. Track budgets, provide forecasts and schedule/attend review meeting with utility companies and city staff.


Responsibilities & Duties

  • Deliver utility undergrounding projects.
  • Electric Rule 20 and AT&T Rule 32.
  • Oversee design teams and distribute assignments
  • Contract review and management
  • Coordination with client staff
  • Mentor design engineers
  • Check for accuracy of design and adherence to Utility guidelines, standards, and specifications
  • Track project budgets and verify construction cost estimates. Provide forecast
  • Schedule, attend, and provide feedback at internal/ external review meetings with Utility Companies and City staff
  • Meet tight deadlines, prioritize tasks quickly, and coordinate schedules with several concurrent projects
  • Verify conformance with specific plan, general plan, master plan, city ordinances, ADA requirements, and other agency standards
  • Experience in electric service conversions, in providing gas and electric services and working with municipal agencies
  • Fluent in utility tariffs
  • Familiarity working and managing through politics inherent within organizations
  • Familiar with CPUC processes
  • Experience writing staff reports for agencies
  • Experience in Rule 20A district qualification and formation, underground construction and dry utility relocation


Qualifications & Skills


Any combination equivalent to experience and education that would provide the following required knowledge and abilities:
  • Gas and electric utility experience preferred
  • Qualified Designer Certification a plus
  • College Engineering degree, preferred
  • Professional Engineer License, preferred
  • Minimum 7 years of relevant utility engineering, project management, and/or engineering design experience
  • Comfortable with public speaking
  • Public agency experience and technical writing skills are highly desirable
  • Must be able to work independently with limited supervision
  • Possess the knowledge and ability to work with underground utility reference documents in conjunction with project plans and specifications
  • Experience working in concert with utility and municipal district staff and interacting with the public
  • Must be able to utilize independent judgment and initiative to achieve project objectives and work with a broad variety of people.
